Marketing Plans



Today’s lesson content will refine your understanding of Marketing Plans.  

The substitute will distribute the Chapter 2 packet and review the following items with you.

  1. The Visual Summary (page 1 of the packet) shows the elements of a Marketing Plan and a review of Market Segmentation. 
    2.      Preview Review and Activities (page 2 of the packet) shows an outline of the materials needed for the rest of the week.
    3.      Active reading requires YOU to:
    1.      Highlight key words and ideas
    2.      Underline, Circle, or otherwise indicate items they do not understand
    3.      Jot summary points and/or questions in the margins
    4.      Summarize each section as its read and understood
    4.     Actively read pages 3-7 of the packet.
    5.      On a separate sheet of paper, complete the following items:
    1.      Review Key Concepts - #1 & 3
    2.      Practice Academics – 4 & 5
    3.      Page 2 of the packet – Assess for Understanding 1-8

Keeping Customers

EQ - How does a business keep its customers?
  1. Activator - Chalk Talk: Brainstorm a list of businesses that cater to teens.
  2. Discovery Project

    DIRECTIONS:  Work with a partner to identify two businesses that cater to teenagers.  One business should sell goods and the other services.  Use the seven marketing functions to explain how each business caters to its customers.  How effective are the businesses in satisfying their customer' needs and wants.  Develop a rating scale to present your finding.

    • Which two businesses will you identify?
    • How will you use the marketing functions to evaluate each business?
    • What is the importance of a target market to these businesses?
    • Develop a customer persona for each company.
    • How will you devise a rating scale to determine the effectiveness of satisfying customers' needs and wants?
    • How will you present your findings?
  3. Debriefing

Assignment

  1. Choose a product that reached the decline stage and no longer sustains high levels of popularity.
  2. Provide a brief history of the product.
  3. Describe what went wrong/what caused the decline in sales.
  4. Create a strategy to extend the product life cycle.  Be specific and detailed.
